Year 4 ventured into London, despite the covering of snow, to visit the Tower of London as part of their History studies of Henry VIII and the Tudors. Accompanied by a certain furry friend, they were guided around the precincts by Ladies’ Maid, Claire. They visited the Salt Tower and discovered what life was like as a high profile prisoner. Sitting on the floor, where such infamous names as Guy Fawkes and Sir Walter Raleigh had stepped, they heard all about the torture of prisoners, one pupil volunteered as a candidate for the rack, and heard of ingenious escapes involving oranges! The guided tour ended with a visit to the execution site. They then toured the White Tower and the torture chamber before a well deserved spree of retail therapy! A great day and despite the cold and the traffic much was experienced and learned.
