This week saw the culmination and the finals of the first Lyndhurst Public Speaking Competition, and to say that the pupils did well would be an understatement. Speeches were well-researched, well-written and beautifully delivered, and the speakers displayed such a passion for their subjects that many hardly needed to rely on their prompt cards at all. Subjects were diverse and fascinating, ranging from boxing and coral reefs to pythons and the Battle of Stalingrad. In a near-impossible task, finalists were chosen to perform to the school, and from them came two ‘highly commended’ speeches and an overall winner. However, every single child has the right to feel extremely proud of what they have achieved, for the hard work that they have put in and for their courage in facing the audience. Well done to all!
