At the end of last term, Years 4 and 5 went to Baylab in Reading – a pharmaceutical company that takes a keen interest in opening its doors and educating young people as to the work they do. We partook in a day of hands on learning and fun in two excellent workshops; learning about and then making bath bombs, and examining the science of and then designing our own lip balm.
We looked closely at the ingredients of each substance and learnt about whether they were acid or alkaline and how they affected the bath bombs and lip balm. We also investigated various oils and substances and how they changed products depending on a customer’s wants and needs.
Year 4 and 5 took home some superbly made and headily fragrant bath bombs as well as some smooth and nourishing lip balm. All in all, the day was a huge success and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
