Year 6 recently spent the day at Milestones Museum, Basingstoke to enhance their learning about World War II. The children thoroughly enjoyed their day – seeing a street from the 1930s was one of those awe-inspiring moments. Our facilitator bought to life experiences in The Blitz and what life was like on the Home Front, the role of ARP wardens, sheltering from bombings, nursing and first aid and a quiz identifying friend or foe aircraft. The children also looked at rationing and availability of different food during the war. The highlight had to be a trip to the Sweet Shop where the children were allowed to have their ration book stamped and were allowed to choose their portion of sweets for the week!
