Bell ringing and treasure hunts at St Michael’s Church for Years 5 and 6

A big thank you to Reverend Pippa Ford, Tory and Petra for such a warm welcome for the Year 5 and 6 classes at St Michael’s Church in Camberley to explore the treasures of the Church.  The children learnt that the Bible is the most important treasure because it contains all the stories and information about God, Jesus and Holy Spirit.  Reverend Pippa taught the children that people who make up the church are more precious than gold and silver – they are the family of God.  The children also got to enjoy some music on their visit, which they loved the actions and dancing to the song “I am a treasure”!

The children got to learn that historical treasures help people worship God, the children got to go up the church tower where Petra (a member of the bells’ band) taught them how to ring the bells and showed them the mechanism of the group of bells, using a small wooden model.   They took part in a treasure hunt looking at the windows and carvings to learn stories which are represented by different images.  They had lots of fun making stained glass windows out of paper – there were some stunning ones created.  They had a go at making their own bells which was quite fiddly but Tory helped.  They also got to decorate a bag with a gold sweets inside which symbolised the child being God’s greatest treasure.  Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the outing and are looking forward to another visit soon.
