Cooling Off in Summer
Air Products came to visit us and with them they brought all sorts of science goodies – including a freezing tank of liquid nitrogen! They ran demonstrations and workshops for the school, and the children got the opportunity to learn about the freezing points of liquids and gases, about the conductivity of materials and also got the chance to freeze stuff!
The children were shown the affects of liquid nitrogen on solid objects, and discussions about becoming brittle were had. Then Scarlett hammered a nail into a block of wood with a banana…
Various other things were frozen and laughed at, including flowers and rubber tubing, and Air Products demonstrated the rapid expansion of air using a Pringles can and a loud explosion!
